Product Code: 120346
Brand: Windlass

More Information
The Roman army used the Montefortino-type helmet the longest. From the beginning of the Punic Wars in the 3rd century until the era of Caesar Augustus, it was part of a legionary's standard equipment.

Our Roman helmet is hand hammered from 18 gauge brass and has a typical, bowl-shaped scull with a slightly sloping neck guard. The cheek pieces, which are designed to protect a large part of the face, are riveted to hinges at the temples. The transverse crest ("crista transversalis") with red horsehair attached to the top of the bowl would have been worn by an officer with the rank of centurion or higher. Lined on the inside, our hammered brass Roman helmet with crest weighs around 2.16 kg. The cheek pieces have eyelets so they can be tied together.

We also have a helmet stand for this item as pictured which is usually £19- but if purchased with the helmet is only £15-
