The Roman Gladius was the sword of choice for the legions. Two primary weapons were carried by each soldier: a pilum or pila (plural) and the gladius, a short thrusting sword used in close combat. Part of what made the Roman army such an effective fighting force on the battlefield was the success of the gladius. Its relatively small and light size made it perfect for stabbing in close combat. In combination with the Roman shield, the scutum, the legionnaire was a deadly fighter.

Really nice and good sword. The balance could be better but it's solid, no loose parts and the looks are nice and simple. Quick delivery from Southern Swords.

I received this Gladius a few days ago and am absolutely delighted with it. Like all John Barnett products it is immensely strong and the attention to detail is second to non. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who is considering purchasing a Gladius. The service from Southern Swords was second to none. Delivered in the promised two days. Well done.
